Bloggerific

So I was told that I don't update my blog, so I figured I better update it so that people continue to read it...I don't actually know if anyone does read my blog, but if you do keep checking back I will update it...it just may take me awhile.

Well christmas is just two more sleeps away. I finished my christmas shopping today which was a huge relief because I only really had one complicated person to shop for and in all honesty I never had ever had problems shopping for this person before. But now that is out of the way I feel much relief and can continue the quest to wrap the presents...yes it is almost christmas eve and I have not wrapped my presents. They will get wrapped tomorrow, I plan to wrap all night if I have too.

Today I had a lot of fun, Ashley came over and made a gingerbread train with the kids and then we went out to look at the christmas lights with my family...which in turn caused the kiddo's to basically fall asleep. So while my parents went out with Nathan to eat, we stayed at their house and made a gingerbread tree and then were going to start the second gingerbread tree but it did not come with any candy even though the pictures on the box show otherwise. So tomorrow we will accomplish the second gingerbread tree. It was a treat for her since she had never made a gingerbread "anything" in her life before. I will make ashley sick of gingerbread before christmas is done...haha

It was really fun actually, our tree was crooked and looked like it was about to fall over, so hopefully by tomorrow morning it will still be standing.

So other than that, there is not to much to report. We are still moving all our stuff over to the house, I am in somewhat disbelief over how much stuff we have. Kids are not easy to pack up and move. We have somehow accumulated a lot of stuff over the last three years and seriously I haven't even started moving the majority of their toys yet.

Anyways until I post again, here's a thought that Tay told me today. Just because the outside of a house isn't decorated, doesn't mean the inside isn't. Basically what he was getting at was don't judge the outside because what is inside might suprise you. Smart little guy, he amazes me.

Schools out for the winter.

So exams are done, textbooks will be shut and put away to be forgotten about for at least one month. I am finally done my exams for the semester and what a huge relief that is. I can finally have time to just sit back, relax and enjoy my life for a change.
School can be stressful, but finals are even more stressful. We just completed four finals (some had five finals) in two days. Studying for them was easy and good at the same time. It is so good to be done.
Plus now it gives me a bit of time to the things that I really would like to do for a change.
Anyways that is about all I have to say today, the snow is melting so it may be a nice weekend here. We'll see, I wish the snow would stick together so we could build a snowman but this snow won't stick.

A few days later...

So I won't write about my sphere lab experience because we did not get to go into it this last week. We were scheduled wrong, so our date with the creepy robot dude is on hold until next Thursday....can hardly wait...

We spent the lab catheterizing, changing dressings and shortening pen rose drains all in preparation for the finals. The finals can quite possibly be the worst, most nerve wracking life experiences in your time during nursing school.

Especially the LAB FINALS-->You pick out of a hat what you are going to do then you are put into a little room behind the curtain, with an instructor just staring at what you are doing, marking you. They don't speak, they don't maintain eye contact, they make the occassional noise to clear their throat or breathe in deeply, but they write....and they write....and they write...but you don't know what they are writing down on that paper.

So then every sense in your mind just starts to wander, you can't remember what you are doing, your pulse and heart rate increase through the roof, your blood pressure begins to boil and the room starts to spin and you start to sweat and confusion sets in....then you think your done but your not actually sure of what happened over the last half hour during your lab exam. You just walk out of the room, hoping you didn't forget the important points and that you did your job well. And asking if you passed or failed is out of the question because they won't tell you that either. You just wait for your marks to posted and what a horrible wait that can be.

So that is where my focus is at, the last 3 clinical evening shifts, and the last two days of school this week and then next week my two final days. Four exams in two days- should be fun. But then in the end we have a month off at christmas and what a wonderful time it will be. Just rest and relaxation until January when a whole new set of classes and schedules begin.

Anyways off to research my four patients for tomorrow....hopefully I won't drown and be buried with the work that is at hand. Organization is something I still need to master.

A little delayed or maybe just busy.

I will admit my blog has been severely neglected due to the new fade of facebook but I figured why not attempt to maintain some link between the two and update my blog and be on facebook.

So here I am back again, at last count the semester was nearing a finish. I can now say that I have 3 wonderful evenings of clinical left and exactly 12 days of school left until this semester is over. It's a little scary because then it means I am that much closer to being done school for awhile until I decide whether or not to be brave and go back to school yet again. It's really a toss up at the moment, I think I am alright with where I am at currently (education wise).

So we have 3 clinical days left and they are 8 hour evening shifts. We are basically being tossed to the wind in the last week. We currently have two patients per student, that is quite a lot of work but acute care is so different from long term care. But next week on our evenings we are being given 8 patients to care for between 2 students. I am quite terrified of being put in this situation but I am confident that I might be able to handle the caseload. We'll see, at least I don't have to get up at 5:30a.m. anymore this semester.

Anyways other than that, school is school. We get to go into the sphere lab tomorrow with the creepy robot that totally freaks me out. It is a robot but talks, breathes, has a pulse, heart rate, blood pressure etc. It is really ugly looking too, it doesn't look remotely human but they use it to train us to think critically. We'll see how it goes, it shouldn't be all that bad except for it's just creepy. I was so nervous the first time I went into the sphere lab by myself, this time it shouldn't be too bad because there are 4 people per care team, so maybe just maybe I will be alright.

Well off to study and play with robots tomorrow...what nursing school puts you through.

No place for November

I can hardly believe it is November already which means I have 34 more days of school to go this semester...well that's including the weekends so it would actually be 25 more days. I was talking to a friend who goes to the school I go to that said this semester was condensed this year, for what reason we are still unsure. But as of December 7th my fall semester at school is done which is kind of frightening because I have 4 exams in two days. But apparently the other thing I learned is that when you do in class exams by some rule they are unable to give us cumulative exams for the whole semester, so that makes me a little happier. And I only have 12 days of clinical left as well.
Which brings me to my next point. At the college/university here, there has been an outbreak of the mumps! apparently five cases have surfaced in a short period of time causing panic. So on Monday before we go to clinical we must get our mumps vaccinations or we cannot attend clinical. We were only informed of this today, why they wait until the weekend to tell us is another story, the school and instructors confuse me greatly! But such is life right?

So Monday morning I will march and get my mumps vaccination so that I do not miss a day of clinical. Otherwise you have to write a 5-7 page paper for every missed clinical day....They are punishing us. But my favorite quote is that "Nursing is my passion, but nursing school is cruel and unusual punishment."

We went to Chapters and bought a few books, that's always fun. Looked at the starbucks mugs but did not buy any...I have to curb the collection, I have quite a few odd starbucks mugs now. I always like to buy them when they are on sale for like $2.99 after months of being unable to sell them they mark them down quite low, just watch the sales. Then we wandered the mall for a bit. Then headed over to Ashley's house for a bit to try on some shoes...I hate trying on shoes when people are watching me, so having three people watch me try them on was a bit intimidating. But the shoes are cute!

~Anyways off to enjoy the rest of my weekend...have a good weekend~

It's been awhile!

I didn't realize that I hadn't updated my blog in awhile. So I apologize for being so behind. Well I wish there was something to update but really nothing has been going on that is worth writing about.
We are quite busy these days and it is about to get busier. Clinical starts on Monday.....the dreaded clinical...I am not so impressed with where I am placed this term only because I am an employee at the unit I am doing my clinical placement on. We are in acute care at the hospital and I am on the orthopedic surgical floor, so it should be a very challenging and informative placement. I look forward to it.....terrified at the same time.
Another exciting thing is that we get to do a week long psychiatry placement as well. We don't get to be in the psychiatry unit at the hospital though, instead we are at a long term care facility (it is a hospital) but it is mostly geriatric psychiatry. I wish we could do our rotation in the hospital but with the amount of nursing students they are churning through both the PN and RN programs, we do not get placements there.
Today as well I went with my friend to get our Student badges, the health region requires that we as students wear the badges that they give us and not the ones that we could just get at the school. I was so worried about my picture that I made the poor guy in the photo ID place take my picture more than once to ensure that the picture was good...anyone who has seen my school student ID might know why I was so insistant on the picture looking good.
But anyways with papers to write, I should close for now.
So all I have to say is let the games begin and hopefully I do not get too stressed out.

Amusing...I think.

I have lately thought Andy Warhol's work is quite interesting. This one above is one of his art pieces. He uses bright colors and catchy little saying. Many celebrities have had their portraits made into Andy Warhol art pieces. They are different, which is why they are interesting.
Anyways nothing new is going on these days, just busy with school and I cannot believe it is already October. One month into the school year and already we are preparing for midterms. That is what happens when you are in a program with a compacted semester. The midterms come quickly and they shouldn't be that bad. Well since I am not really saying anything important, I am going to save my blog for another day when I have something conductive or intelligent to say.

Self-Explanatory.

I saw this sign and it made me chuckle....
though it should say "Parking for Student Nurses Only!"
It's monday, but I feel like the week should be over already.
I am searching for motivation right now, so if anyone sees motivation,
could they send it my way?

Slacking in the blog department!

So I realized I hadn't blogged in awhile but this is probably due to school starting. Even my time on facebook has substantially decreased as well.
Well to update you on the happenings around here there is quite a bit going on.

Point 1- All the students at the college are flustered in their first few weeks of school, trying to figure everything out and get organized. Usually this is not a hard task but our schools web system is down. So I should right now be pouring over readings or writing papers but since the web system is down, we have no way of accessing our information for our courses that we need. It has been down since Sunday and is quite an inconvienence for some of us whose content for courses is on there. I should have printed out what I needed on Saturday when I could retrieve it all, but I figured in a few days it'll all still be there....little did I know the whole system would crash.

Point 2- We still haven't moved, the appliances for the house still have not arrived (though I have the fridge), but the rest of the appliances are a no show. They said by this thursday some of them should be here and well that's tomorrow, the rest are coming the week after....we'll see, I may be too pessimistic to believe them.

Point 3- Wal-mart's Grocery section opens tomorrow! Yay! Actually I am being sarcastic and am not as excited as the two women I overheard while walking through the store today. They were on their cellphones talking to their friends telling them the exciting news that Wal-mart's Grocery department will be open for business tomorrow! I mean I was shocked that people actually do that...(I know I didn't call anyone and tell them that)

Point 4-We are getting some exciting music groups to the city. The blue man group is touring through Canada and gracing us with their presence and as well Weird Al Yankovic! I don't find this at all exciting because honesty these are the type of performers that probably couldn't get booked in the bigger venue facilities in the major cities, so they are gracing us with their presence. Weird Al does a version of Green Day's "American Idiot", his is however calling it "Canadian Idiot"....how does someone make money off of these songs? Seriously! but I will probably buy his album because I sang along to his songs "Amish Paradise" and "Phony Calls"....do you remember those ones?

Point 5- It is starting to get cold out. We are suppose to get frost tonight. It's suppose to go down to minus two but I always remember that it never snows here until Halloween, so we are safe at least for a few weeks.

Today was the last day of summer

So today was officially the last day of my summer. Tomorrow is the start of year 2 as a nursing student. I am excited about returning, but at the same time it is terrifying because it is a demanding course load. Minus the psychology class that I took over summer thank goodness!! I didn't enjoy my psychology class all that much due to the fact that it was well....boring and the material was dry. So I do not need that in an already busy semester.

But I do however get to take exciting classes such as mental health and community care...should be interesting. I will let you know in the future if I am still as enthusiastic tomorrow as I am today about going back....we'll see.

But I spent my last few days of summer really not doing much. I watched quite possibly the worst movies ever....right Ashley? We started with The prince and me 2.....I do not recommend this movie....it was terrible acting. Then we watched Are we done yet?....a sequel to the movie- Are we there yet?....it wasn't too bad, it was funny but I will never watch this movie again. Then I watched Georgia Rule(s)? I think it's called. It's quite possibly the worst movie I have ever watched....I never have liked Lindsay Lohan's acting except for the parent trap because that is quite possibly my most favorite movie of all time. So I spent the weekend watching movies and staying up late....a great way to start the new semester.

Anyways that is all for now :)

Last friday in August

So I have run out of things to blog about. I haven't however run out of boxes to unpack...lately my unpacking days have consisted of me staring at the boxes and just pretending they don't exist...I lived without the contents of those boxes for a few years, so do I really need everything that is inside of them now? So I mostly just sit in the middle of the floor, staring at boxes wondering what do I do with them? I have been rather unmovitated to unpack this last week.

I took my CPR-HCP yesterday. It was quite possibly the longest day of my life but don't worry if anything should happen to you, I am qualified to use an AED. So we got to play with the practice ones and shock our dummies who were our patients, it was fun. Though no real electricity actually ran through the lines of the diffibrilators unfortunately. So its not like the dummies jumped or anything. The machines just told us the shocks had been delievered. So we breezed through the day and it wasn't so bad, I didn't know any of the girls who took it with me either, so it was a long day.

So I officially have 5 more days of summer until school is back in....how should I spend my last 5 days of summer? I just don't know.

The blog vs. facebook addicts.

So it seems lately that I am the only one who updates their blog....almost everyday....but I check blogs quite often and I think I have figured out why people don't blog as much as they use to. It is because of facebook. Everyone is on facebook and blogs are becoming the way of the past, some might say old technology to keep up to date with people's lives. I enjoy reading other people's blogs but my biggest pet peeve (as far as internet related) is that people tell you they got a blog and then don't update it often.

So to let people know....who aren't on facebook....what you can do on facebook, let me tell you. You can find almost anyone you knew from way back in the first grade at school. Or you can find people who you went to school with or graduated with. You can find people you work with, people you went to post-secondary with or you can find your friends. I even found extended family members on facebook and as well some of my friends parent's on facebook.

You can keep in touch via the wall, the super wall, the poke, or the messaging (which is just like email). You can draw graffiti if they have a graffiti wall, you can send post-it-notes to your friends. You can play with magnetic poetry if they have that on their wall. You can send people fish, flowers, or plants. You can send free gifts, you can send gifts you have to buy for a $1.00 a piece. You can participate in many activities such as food fights, pets, pirates, zombies, poker, etc. You can join clubs that range from everything like what it was like to be a child in the 80's or to help your friends achieve some kind of internet stardom or celebrity or you can join just nonsense clubs.

You can do quiz's that will leave links on your note page, you can write notes about random stuff...kind of like a blog.. You can hug people, or if you choose to you can hit people....you can Instant message on facebook now. You can create photo albums to share with your friends and you can have as many pictures as you would like. You can even post videos. You can rate your friends and have top friends lists. You can write in their honesty boxes about how you really feel about them. You can tell people how you are feeling that day. You can even have a human pet! You can ask people questions and they can answer, you can tell people what kind of mood you are in. You can support causes, you can countdown to important events. You can tell your friends what you like, you can tell them all the places you've visited.

I mean look at all the stuff you can do on facebook.....it's outrageous. It's like it's own little world over there. So now I understand fully why people waste so much time on facebook instead of blogging. But to my loyal blog readers, I will continue to blog because I like to write and I haven't figured out how to write on facebook using the "note" application yet. So until that day comes, my blog will flourish and grow.
p.s.->I am in no way promoting facebook by the writing of this blog.... :)

A Joke for today :)

A little funny for you all. I heard this one at the womens conference that we went to two weekends ago.

"Why do married women gain weight while single women don't? A single women goes to the refrigerator, sees nothing that she wants, and goes to bed. A married women goes to bed, sees nothing she wants, and goes to the refrigerator."

Sorry I couldn't resist....it was pretty funny...

Thought for today...

So I was sitting here last night with quite possibly the greatest thing to blog about but last night I was too tired, so I didn't stay up late and instead decided to get as much sleep as possible because I was wiped.
Then the idea for my blog came back to me this morning and I said first thing I am going to do when I get home is blog about it....well I forgot what was so important in the first place, so you'll just have to make due with this little rant for now until I remember what I wanted to blog about.

Unpacking, packing, looking at the boxes...

So this is what I have been looking at in the garage for the last two weeks approximately. Boxes! And not just one or two or three or four boxes but probably close to at least 70 boxes. I packed away the contents of my life into boxes thinking it would not be hard to unpack them. Honestly I have probably unpacked twenty boxes already and put them away into the house but now I am faced with this mammoth pile of boxes stacked almost to the ceiling in the garage and I have no desire to unpack them.

I am just not sure why I feel this way. I find the boxes to be more of a hinderance in my life than a step towards positive change. I just want the boxes to disappear or I am willing to sell the contents of the boxes for a sum...but it would be a blind auction! heehee. Plus when you are moving with kids, they seem to be the reason that there are so many boxes. I do not think my kids could have enough toys! Every box has at least has some kind of toy inside of it or the box is filled with toys.

I just am a little disappointed or discourged may be a better word with unpacking. But one box at a time right? I have a long way before we are unpacked and ready to make the move complete.

This summer I injured myself...

So you might be looking at this picture of my knee wondering what on earth I did to deserve such a pretty gross looking bruise on my knee....yes it is my knee....I actaully ate at Subway Restaurant where I was rewarded with this shiner! I am not going to sue....don't worry, it has long faded away and returned to my normal skin tones. But the story is that dad, mom and I were going to have a healthy and nutritious subway lunch. I enjoy sneaking away and having lunch with them. Anyways my mom asked me to go get her a bottle of water out of the cooler around the corner. So being the nice daughter that I am, I obliged and began my journey to the pop cooler. I had no sooner rounded the corner when both feet went out from under me and I ended up flat on my bottom sitting in a huge puddle of water that I had not noticed prior to the accident.. An elderly woman and her husband tried to console me and make sure I was alright. It took a few minutes for my dad to clue in that I was indeed injured to which he made sure everyone in subway saw that I was hurt. So I stood up, hobbled to the table in pain, crying not because I was hurt, but because the seat of my pants was completely wet and it looked like I had wet myself.
So my mom was still ordering and had no clue what happened and then my dad rushed to the bathroom, got me a good size stack of paper towels and told me I could sit on them, they would absorb some of the water from my pants. So instead of this picturesque (sp?) lunch with the folks, I had to sit on a stack of paper towel with a wet bottom through the lunch and then my parents and the elderly people wanted to ensure I wasn't hurt. So I rolled up my pant leg and to my dismay there was a huge welt! It looked like someone had taken a baseball bat to my knee. (it looked worse than the picture, the picture was taken two days later!)...So the employees at subway mopped up the mess and a puddle formed again and I voiced my concern for the elderly who might slip and break a hip in the puddle. Working in the health care field on the orthopedic floor, I do see too many broken hips! They said the manager was aware of the leak.
So a few days after the incident, my parents got a free lunch at subway...I am still waiting for my free lunch that I was told I would recieve if I came in when the manager was there....I haven't been back to subway since the accident.

So this is proof that people do get hurt...yes I was attacked by a box! And as you can tell the box won. I was retrieving the last of my boxes from the warehouse. I had joked with one of the employees that my boxes weren't heavy and that I would manage. The first two were lighter than a feather (maybe they were empty...I don't know!). By the time I reached for the third box it was heavier than a box full of stones. I didn't have a good grip on it, and it fell on top of my hand resulting in an ugly gash...trust me it looks worse than the picture! So needless to say I felt stupid and it was bleeding. I got into the Durango, drove to the front of the building to complain to my younger brother, who in turn replied with "did you get all your stuff out?"....did he ask why my hand was bleeding or hurt? No, he just wanted to ensure all my stuff was gone. I did tell him the box attacked me though, but he didn't seem to concern...maybe it happens more often in the warehouse than I am aware...

So those are my war wounds from the summer...hopefully with two weeks left of summer, there will not be anymore...we'll see.

Updating August

It is hard to believe that August is nearly half done. I am in disbelief because in half a month it is back to the grind with school. But I just have to keep in the back of my mind that I only have one year left. One more year and I get my diploma. That is exciting, I am a well educated person actually with two other certificates. So I am excited to be obtaining my third. In less than a year I will be convocating with my classmates with which some have turned into good friends and I will miss them when we no longer have to attend classes together or have lunch every day together in a food court which does not serve healthy or edible food sometimes...heehee (sorry just had to throw that in there!!!)
But I am glad that I can enter the workforce, though I do not know anymore whether I want to work in the hospital or if I would rather work in a doctors clinic with regular 9a.m.-5p.m. hours. I have been thinking a lot about the shift work and am not sure I am best suited for that type of work. Well I have 8 months to the end of school to figure out where I think I would like to work or what I would like to do with my diploma.
But before I obtain another degree of knowledge, we are in the process of moving. It is a long drawn out process and thankfully I know how to pack up a car (not as pictured...). Today we moved the furniture, that I think in moving is always the most exciting part of the move. It is when you see your furniture in the house that it becomes real. I did however get to open a few boxes with a few new residents in them...(spiders!!!) I hate spiders and shut the boxes right away, I think I might just take the garden hose to everything in the container, give it a good soaking.
Well I have time to open them yet, we are not quite moving in because there are no appliances in the house yet. So we will just continue to enjoy summer and move at our leisure and then make the big move once everything is settled in and in it's proper place.
So until next time fellow bloggers or blog readers, I hope summer is filled with fun and laughter for you.

~The pool~

So today we decided it would be a good day to spend a bit of time in the sun outside. Not to much time because it was getting close to +37 outside. So I figured the best way would be for the kiddo's to spend sometime splashing around in their pool or going down the slip and slide.
We got on our sunscreen, and were already to go outside when we noticed we were missing something. The slip and slide was no where to be found, so I resorted to choice number two which was a small pool which sprays water out of the sides of the pool. I like this pool since you do not have to inflate it, but I do not like it just for the fact that you have to keep the tap running and the hose connected to the pool and when the pool is full, it just keeps overflowing, giving the grass more than enough water. A drowning if you can call it that. Well it was just my luck that I could not find this pool either. Mack had remembered that she had seen the yellow inflatable pool in the garage, so me and her strode out to the garage only to discover she was wrong and did not actually see it in there.

So we went back into the house, and into the closet in the pool room and discovered the yellow inflatable pool! It was exciting, and Mack was ready to jump in and splash around. The only problem was that the pool was not inflated and required the help of the aircompressor to inflate it. So we went on a little hunt to find the aircompressor and well we couldn't find it. So I sat down on the bottom step of the staircase and began to inflate it. By the time I was done with the first ring, I was right about to pass out. So I took a short break and went onto inflate the second ring. I got it to the point where I figured it was ok and it would hold enough water. So we went outside and I hadn't even filled it when Mack jumped in and was waiting for the water to come.
Needless to say the pool got inflated, the pool got filled, the little slide was put on the edge and the kids were able to have a half hour of fun!
I will never inflate an inflatable pool again without an aircompressor!

My Summer book.

So my goal for the end of summer is to finish reading the new Harry Potter book....I haven't finished it, so if you know what happens....please don't spoil it for the rest of us...I am beginning to believe that J.K. Rowling really didn't kill two main characters in the book. She just needed to build hype, so people would buy her last Harry Potter book. I mean I had gotten as far as Dobby the house elf dying....I loved that little guy in the movie...he wasn't scary, but a kind little creature. But the author may suprise me in the end. I don't know!

So here I sit at page 485 of 600 pages, too tired to read anymore. It is my goal to finish this book and tell you what really happened to Harry Potter in the end of the book.....we'll see!
So until that happens, I will continue to enjoy my summer...I will make it through the thick reading.

Progress

So to give you an idea of how much they do in a house in two days to get it nearer to completion. I thought I would give you a snapshot of the last two days in the process of building the house.
On Monday: They hung two mirrors
On Tuesday: They patched a hole in the wall the size of a toonie.

What is to come tomorrow? Hmmm...not to sure.

Back Again

So the house is not yet ready for habitation. I sat outside on the front step with Mackenzee today and it was nice, the neighbourhood is quiet, the view is somewhat nice except for the ugly blue house across the street and the ugly green house behind it....should I mention we have an eyesoar of a red house behind our house? Yes it is like being surrounded by a rainbow.

But it was nice just to sit outside on the front step and watch her run around on the sidewalk and just express her curiousity for everything. She was trying to pick the rocks up off the driveway...it was kind of cute because she would just look at me and ask me for help to pick up the green rock she was trying to get out. No such luck though, it was stuck (because of the finish on the driveway) and so she would just move on to the next rock.

So spending time in the peace and quiet of the new neighbourhood was quite nice. But unfortunately we still have not yet moved. We do however have a neighbor with a dog who barks and barks and barks...but not every neighbourhood can be perfect. So we will just wait and see when we can move.

This ol' house

So it looks like the house is almost ready for habitation. It has been a very long run if you ask me with a lot of obstacles in the way but it seems that the ol' house may finally almost be ready.
After having spent almost a month doing the flooring, I must say that it does look good inside. There is still minor work to be done inside the house before it is completely ready. And no that picture is not the house. Building a house in lethbridge you get the lots that are basically stacked one house next to another with little room between. There are houses to the left, to the right and all around the back of the house across the yard. It does not permit for very much privacy.
Though I did decide when I moved in, the first thing I was going to do was construct a fence on the one side (because there is no neighbor on the other side yet) and then plant really, really tall trees to shelter the yard so that my neighbors on every side cannot just sit and watch me in my backyard when they feel like it.
We'll see, there is still lot's of work to do around the house. We'll see if the move in date gets moved up yet again.

The Simpsons

So to add to the hysteria of the New Simpsons movie coming out soon, I figured I would share some factual information with you.
As it turns out through geneological searching, (according to my cousin, who said my uncle conducted this search). Matt Groening is my fifth cousin. How cool is that?
Being related to the creator of the simpsons is a really neat thing. Now mind you, every person who I ever told didn't believe me but now that it has been geneologically proven, it has to be truth right?
But I haven't caught myself up in the hype of the simpsons movie, sure they were ok to occasionally watch on t.v. but some of my friends are die hard simpsons fans and for them this movie is the most spectacular thing to happen all summer.
A few of them have resorted to getting their pictures outside of the "Quick-E-Marts" that have popped up all over the place. Drinking Squishee's and Buzz cola has become a popular past-time for a few as well....it's all the hype of the simpsons movie. It's a little over the top to promote a movie.

So time goes by

Well I have returned from my restful, uneventful week in Winnipeg. It was so nice to sleep till noon and then lay around the house for the rest of the day and do absolutely nothing. We did watch movies in the afternoon when we weren't out and about doing things. I was able to see a few family members of the extended family that is out there. And to see my cousin Bonnie's adorable little guy Tirian. He is so cute and he can out stare anyone...don't challenge him to a staring contest you will lose! (and he is only like six months old).

Friday was lot's of fun, we spent the afternoon scurrying around Winnipeg and then we went to see the new Transformers movie. It was really good actually, a future DVD purchase for me. Then we went back for Rob's birthday party that Adrienne had so carefully thrown together via facebook...heehee (love it!!) It was nice to see their friends that I hadn't seen since their wedding.

I did have a nice restful vacation in Winnipeg. Now it's back to work and life. I spent the majority of my day today cleaning tile and scrapping up grout. I finished the two bathrooms, the hall laundry closet and as well the kitchen. Tomorrow I will finish up with the front hall and then we are going to start putting tile on the two sets of stairs. We will see how that turns out. So far it looks pretty good. Then hopefully things will speed up with the house and it won't see like to far off into the distance that we can move in. We'll see!

Well till next time, I am tired, so I am off to watch a little bit of the learning channel.

Yes that is right, I am leaving on a jet plane.....remember the song? Everyone knows the song! I unfortunately don't have it on my ipod anymore...(took it off because I needed to add my new music and didn't have the room). So I had to make room...haha
Anyways I'll be in Manitoba until next week sunday when I fly back home again. So until then my blog may/or may not, be updated. But I hope to have a good week with some R&R and seeing family who I haven't seen in awhile and catching up with everyone. So it is off to the old country for me! Have a good week!

Updates to my last entry.

So where to begin....well I have been working at the hospital quite a bit, I am on day 4 of a stretch of a 7...yay I can see the end coming! I am still coughing a storm...but sorry to say the phlegm has disappeared and is now just a dry cough, so i have no gross disguisting stories about my mysterious illness for my blog today.

The house is apparently painted the right color. I have not witnessed this myself but am told so by reliable sources that the house is the proper color now. I will check on that this weekend and maybe if my loyal blog readers are lucky they will see a picture of the paint color choice that had been choosen to be displayed on the walls in the house. Also the cabinets are in the house (and they are the correct cabinets...haha). The railings are stained to match the cuboards now (still haven't seen this myself either.) And the painters were suppose to be done painting by today but my source doesn't think the painters are done yet either.

So a bit of progress in the ever marching saga of house building. I mean from the possession date originally being October of 2006, I would say that we are not that far off schedule...(notice my sarcasm?)

So anyways I have three wonderful days left of work at the hospital then it is off to the tropical setting of Manitoba. Anyways it is late and I should sleep.

The official pondering buzz.

So this is the way I feel. I have had this head cold for about four days now and it is not getting any better. I wake up and my head feels like a storage facility for phlegm, and I have never felt like my head is going to explode the way I have over the last few days...yes it is true, my head may explode...so try not to stand to close me till this all blows over.

So aside from feeling yucky, me and Ashley met Rick, Nathan and Rob D. to do some quadding yesterday. It was fun and once I got going (no I did not get past the first gear), it was a piece of cake. Mind you Rick and Rob D. felt it was not a good idea to teach me how to go into reverse until I could drive the quad properly in first gear. So needless to say I got stuck at the edge of the field parked in the direction of a dirt pile. So Rick had to push my quad backwards to get me aimed in the right direction so I could continue on in learning how to drive the quad. I was actually laughing so hard because I really suck at quading. Rick was very helpful out in the field and was very encouraging to me during my moments of stupidity where I couldn't get the quad going again and kept stalling. He's a good teacher. Ashley on the other hand did really well, she actually made my quad driving look really, really, really bad.

So we had fun until the boys decided to call it quits....which we all agree (well Ashley, Nathan & I) that we should have spent more time out there. But this is something we will attempt to master at a future date because it is quite fun. But I have never been good at driving a manual, I love automatics. So Nathan's gonna try to get us to try an automatic quad sometime when we have time to go out and practice our quadding skills. Don't laugh....I will become good and master a jump or two. Just wait and see.

Other than not to much happening around here. The house is coming along, the driveway is ready to go...but in need of repairs because they finished the driveway on a day that was to hot resulting in gigantic cracks all across the driveway. So someone is going to fix that. The painters painted the interior of the house the wrong color (due to someones dyslexic ways). So the carpenter is done for now until the finishing carpentry needs to be done after the flooring is in. Next comes the cabinets and then the painters will regrace the house with their presence and paint the house the proper colors...I will be there to make sure they get it right the second time around. Then comes the flooring, then after all that the carpenter will come back in and finish the finishing carpentry....somewhere in between I think the lighting goes into...and then voila the house will be done.....so I hope....so the projected date of possession may hopefully be August??? heehee no one really knows at this point and time!...actually they never gave a possession date after they failed to meet the October 2006 possession date. (long story!)

So while all this is happening and my dad will be here to take care of business, I am heading off to Manitoba for the first week of July...so for my fellow Manitoba readers (I actually don't know how many of you read this.) I will be around from the 3rd to the 8th staying with my auntie arlene. So that is some exciting news! I need the vacation.

Now I should probably go study because I have my last final exam on Tuesday before the summer begins. So if you don't mind I am going to head off to read up about Freud and Erickson and their views on how development occurs over the lifespan....it isn't actually that exciting.

Ps- I do promise to keep my blog updated a lot more than it has been. I realize that it has been awhile since I have blogged and I apologize to all my loyal blog readers.

For the finale...

So it is pouring rain outside and it feels like minus 30 degrees inside...mostly because for some reason the airconditioners are still running even though it is cold outside. I am sure by tomorrow the sun will be out and it will return to the hot, hot +30 degree we've been having. So I figured I would take a moment to blog.

I finally picked out and decided on the colors for the house...which everyone had me second guessing my decisions and making me really wonder if I should be allowed to pick colors because I know nothing about interior design. But finally I picked the colors and what is done, is done. If it looks horrible, then I will repaint every square inch of the place myself...heehee probably not!

They are putting the siding up on the house finally, but they don't get very far from day to day mostly due to the fact that when I drive by and check on the progress, I only ever see one man working...I feel bad for him because the front of the house and part of the side of the house goes up two complete stories and working on ladders and scafolding yourself is NEVER recommended. So hopefully when I drive by, the other guy is just on his lunch break or whatever. I can believe that there are two people putting up siding...it makes it seemingly go by faster.

So they are going to begin to paint the interior of the house and then hopefully we can get in and start doing some flooring! Yes it is a project for my dad and Nathan...I will try to help but I am quite busy with work right now and school. I have a huge paper due on Monday and the question I have to focus on is: DO PEOPLE HAVE THE RIGHT TO DIE?
It touches on whether or not euthanasia should be allowed and legalized or should it remain unlegalized. So I have to get the views of two medical professionals or someone else..heeehee now this paper is due next week Tuesday and I have yet to seek out advice or help from anyone about this...I am such a procrastinator but I am telling you that it will turn out to be an amazing wonderful paper on my part. I do great amazing work in the midst of stress and chaos!

Color schemes a plenty!

Okay so I may not be so bold as to make my living room look that insane! But Today I spent sometime browsing through the showhomes here because I was told I cannot paint the trim in the house and the doors in the house, the same as the wall color. I honestly don't think it would look that bad, but apparently it's never been done before and will look funny.
So I took to the showhomes and honestly whoever decorated them has some serious taste issues. They may quite possibly have been worse than this photo! The first house had the whole mono-tone thing going for it, just plain old white and beiges...yuck!! The second house was getting closer to my taste minus the bright red painted throughout it mixed with the browns. The third house was closer which had the browns throughout (which I very much love!!) but then the baseboards and trim were an offwhite color, too close to white. I am not one who likes the color white in a house. White trim use to be the "In" thing to do but honestly it doesn't look good, it collects major amounts of dust and dirt and they do eventually turn black if left uncleaned.
So after having browsed the showhomes I sought out the help of my dad and Nathan to help me decide. I am now looking at new paint options for my walls and they want to start painting this week. But nothing has seemingly gone right with the building of the house in the first place. This house is definitely behind schedule!!!
So anyways other than my misadventures with the house it was a beautiful +32 degrees outside today. The kids spent the afternoon playing in the spray pool and having so much fun. It hopefully tired them out enough to sleep well tonight. We also spent a bit of time with Ashley because she came down from Calgary. I can say nothing odd or weird happened except Ashley thinks monsters live in her basement and Taylor helped her hunt them with the laser guns. Anyways until next time...I need to go to bed!

An adventure on the highway.

So this weekend I went to Calgary to get away and do some shopping and as well to hang-out with Ashley & Nathan. So I was driving up on the highway just enjoying the solitude and enjoying the ride up. Just outside of claresholm I switched lanes and drove for about five minutes when I noticed a duck sitting on the side of the road. I thought that was strange and kept driving. As soon as I was about to pass this sitting duck, it decided to fly. It was like a slow motion movie of this duck's wing flapping up and down as it was trying to get itself into the air. The only problem was that it was trying this infront of my car driving close to 120km/hr. So I am just almost sitting in a time warp in my car watching this duck flap and flap and it just kept getting closer and closer to my front windshield. I hit the duck! It smacked so hard into my front windshield that the impact made a huge "THUD" and I cringed inside knowing I hit this poor defenseless duck who was trying to fly away from the highway. As soon as the duck hit my windshield and I heard this "Thud" I shut my eyes! I did not want to see this poor duck hit my glass. Nathan told me it was a good thing I shut my eyes incase the beak of the duck hit the window and shatter it.

So I am not the first member of my family to hit a duck on that highway. I am reminded of an instance not so long ago when a certain younger brother of mine was driving up to Calgary to visit Ashley. He thought it was something else and as his wheels were about to drive over it, he realized it was a mother duck with little ducklings following behind. He hit a mother duck and left the ducklings on the side of the road to be orphaned. So we have this history in our family of hitting ducks on the highway between here and Calgary.

So as you can imagine as soon as I told this to Ashley, she couldn't contain her laughter and we were laughing until we had tears in our eyes and could barely talk. It was just like what were the chances that the two of us would do the exact same thing. Hit a duck, what are the chances?

So we had fun this weekend. I stayed with Ashley's family and it was quite a full house this weekend. They get a lot of guests because the girls both have boyfriends and they now have one of Nathan & Ashley's friends living with them who also has a girlfriend...so their house is never quiet...we are trying to persuade Ashley to move back here! We miss having her around...but she has promised she will come to visit, so hopefully we will have more tales to follow.

The real Story

So the real story behind the "Zellers" Saga is as follows. Ashley, her mom, my mom and I were wandering around the linen & bedding department at Zellers when all the suddenly Ashley's mom got a phone call. She said "Kristie, please watch Ashley, she has a tendency to wander off." I told her that I would do my best to keep tabs on the whereabout's of Ashley. I was following my mom around while she looked for her duvet cover and kept having to tell Ashley to keep up because she was stopping, looking and touching everything!!! Telling me how soft the pillows were and which bedding really felt like it had way to much starch put into it before it was packaged. Well I kept a close eye on her, almost too close then soon we were seperated from my mom. Ashley began to freak out and run around the store screaming that she was lost, now you think in the commotion, my mom would have found us. But instead I had to chase Ashley around the store hopelessly trying to catch her and calm her down. Pretty soon we ended up at the 'lost property office'...(see picture above). I told the man at the desk that it would be nice of him to please page my mom to the office to reunite us. Instead the man, deciding we were playing a practical joke on him said this "would the mother of the two twenty-something daughters, please come claim them"...."They really should not be left unattended!"
So that is how the weekend shopping trip to Zellers really went...

Tuesdays Ponderings

So today I started school again...I have two three hour classes per week for 6 weeks. It would be a lot of fun except it is Psychology. That perhaps is the most boring, uninteresting class that I could ever think of taking but since I need it for graduation, I have no choice but to pass the class so that I can get the credits. I had considered taking psychology before as a major...so glad I didn't!!! I really wouldn't have lasted long.

The weekend was really nice to get away and I am contemplating attempting to escape the city again to go somewhere...this far the plan is on hold because I am in school right now and I have a part-time job at the hospital as a clerk, when I can get the work. I have realized that after having worked so hard last semester and with everything else that happened to help make my life incredibly hectic and crazy, that I just need time away. I will travel this summer, just not sure where I want to go yet.

Today it reached an amazing +30degree's outside. Oh so nice except being stuck inside half the day plus the sky looked kind of funny all morning like it was going to rain. The sky really only cleared up at around 2 this afternoon when the sun actually began to shine outside.

Well I am going to go watch Catch and Release...I have no idea if it is actually a good movie or not. We'll see I suppose.

A discovery while away for the day.

So today me and my mom decided to take the day and relax because I felt it necessary to take a little vacation and get my mind of everything and just have fun. I feel like I haven't had fun in awhile. So we took the day and went into Calgary to do some shopping. And by the way the Gap now sells Converse shoes! I was shocked because they are the most comfortable shoes ever and I wear mine every single day and own like five pairs!! But while in the kids gap we saw they had little converse shoes from size 1 all the way to adult sizes! They were too cute!

So we met up with Ashley and we discovered something very unique in the city of Calgary. A one stop wedding strip mall. First they had a bridal shop for the bride and a Tux shop for the groom...must haves for any wedding. Then next door was a hair salon, and a beach wear store. Then there was a travel agent. I mean how convienent when planning your wedding is that? The only thing missing was a caterer, florist and photographer and they would have been set. It was pretty funny, we had a good laugh.

So spending the day with Ashley was quite the adventure. We went to the malls, we hit Ikea and had lunch together with our moms. Then it was time to take ashley home. Now normally this should only take like twenty minutes but we decided to take Country Hills Boulevard to her house in the NW. The trip from Ikea to her house took a whole 53 minutes! Almost an hour...yes we had fun complaining about the traffic and seeing part of the north Calgary I had never seen before and parts I had seen many times before having lived there.

It was a fun day and I have harrassed Ashley to update her blog too. But with the whole facebook craze, who has time to blog anymore...heehee

Well as much as I would love to be sitting on a beach somewhere this summer, It looks like I may have to settle for a smaller trip somewhere closer to home in the time I have off between work and school which starts again for me on tuesday. I am taking an introduction to psychology class.....should be interesting.

Well I am tired, so I am off to bed!

Exams are done!

The anatomy of the pogo stick....actually that is not what this post is about....yes bloggers I am back and sooo ready for summer. I couldn't find a decent picture of a hula hoop which is really what I wanted to post about, so the pogo stick will have to do.
I am finally done my exams and it is time for summer. I had six exams and soo much stress that finally I can just relax and enjoy my time away from my huge nursing text-books. They are all going to get piled into a corner somewhere to be forgotten about until September when I may or may not need them again. I don't get my grades back until May, so we'll see. So far across the boards I have a good grade point average....we'll see if it continues.
My summer should be pretty non-eventful or so I hope. I do plan on having some fun and enjoying my time instead of slaving away my life for the needs of everyone else around me. I am going to take time for me and my kids and actually enjoy my summer for a change.
I guess you could say after having had a few "Rough" weeks, I deserve some sort of vacation or time off to enjoy life for a change instead of worrying about what is going on.
So aside from that I haven't got much to say right now. I am tired and I have discovered the new t.v. show "Thank God your here"....it's amusing really and quite funny at some points during the show.
So until next time, don't eat sand.

Monday, April 16, 2007

Sorry to all my loyal blogger readers but until exams are done and other things are out of the way. I won't be posting any blogs. Check back at a future date...see you all later.

Happy birthday!

Happy birthday to my older wiser brother. Hopefully you have a great day and don't feel too old! Thanks for being an awesome brother!

Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, tomorrow...hmmm

So do you ever feel unsure like the weekend or last week has gone to waste? Yes I feel like the person in the picture above. I was sick for five long days with the flu and it honestly was probably the worst five days of my life. Unable to eat, move, sleep and now best friends with the porcelin bowl. So not fun, I can't even eat now because my stomache does not know what food is anymore. So I will begin reintroducing my stomache to the foods I enjoyed before. I introduced a sandwich yesterday which made my stomache turn all night long. I tried again today and we have had success, my stomache aches but does not throb like last night. The sprite slurpee's are still the best medicine for a stomache ache but come on you can't survive eating all that sugar.

That should explain my absence from the blogging world over the last few days. Too sick to blog.
Anyways I bought the new Good Charlotte C.d. and honestly it isn't that bad, the only track that I listen to is track number two because it's basically the only good song on the whole c.d. (sorry to any good charlotte fans out there.)

What else is new? Well I am blogging instead of churning out my ten page medication paper for pharmacology that is due on thursday, I can't think straight. I guess I am too distracted. I can't write it for the next three days because clinical is really heavy too. They punish us by making us do more work than we should. We are all burned out and tired and yes in four short weeks this semester will come to a conclusion and we will enjoy four long months off. So instead of getting to burned out I am skipping the optional extra activities scheduled. I am going to miss the visit to the foothills cadaver lab ( i was looking forward to it) and I will miss out on the CLPNA conference in Calgary for two days instead I will enjoy two days off of school and lot's of SLEEP!!! yay for me. So you weigh the pro's and cons and honestly I would rather not exhaust myself anymore than I already have.
Well I will blog again when I don't have exams or ten page papers due. Off to conquer my med paper, hopefully this has cheered your reading minds up and made you laugh at how tired I really am!!!

Happy Birthday!

So considering I have been stricken with the flu for the last two days and still reeling from it, this will be short but this is an ode to my little brother whose birthday is TODAY! I did not forget just so you know...I've just been sick in bed.

Ode to the little brother, who makes me laugh and smile.
Who's marrying a sweet girl that compliments him well.

I'm happy your finding your happiness after twenty-something years.

Don't worry about getting older, cause we all feel old sometimes.

But laugh, smile and make the best of the times coming ahead.

Happy birthday to a great little brother.

See I think that sounds dorky...but I am not a writer I am a nurse.

Pondering today, tomorrow...and forever

I have found the past few days to be interesting. But this cartooon pretty much sums up a bit of the humor I have in my life at this moment and time. Which is seemingly teensy tiny. Mostly because I am tired and I need at least a week of sleep to catch up on the sleep I've missed since school began too.
Today I take my big Intramuscular test in Lab class. I am nervous because I can't find any of my notes anywhere and I don't know where I put them. I mean it's basic needle giving. So until then I will just go through it in my head until I am sure I know what I am doing. Plus we have lab time to practice too, so it can't be that challenging.

Superhero

Your Superhero Name is The Doctor Android
Your Superpower is Magic
Your Weakness is Clowns
Your Weapon is Your Toxic Gel
Your Mode of Transportation is Ambulance
Heehee I love these quizzes. I am definitely suppose to be in the medical field as you can tell by the previous quiz which said I should become a doctor now this one which superhero am I? It is telling me my superhero name is The Doctor Android and my mode of transportation is via ambulance...sweet deal! My weakness is clowns....it knows me all to well that I hate clowns.

I am intellectually intelligent

You Should Get a MD (Doctor of Medicine)
You're both compassionate and brilliant - a rare combination. You were born to be a doctor.

heehee I took a quiz...yes I am the brillant one. I totally am headed in the right direction I suppose. Just may take a while to get there.

Anyways saw the movie Premonition tonight! Oh my goodness it was all around a good movie. Yes I will admit they had me confused in the middle of the movie. Sandra Bullock is still my favorite actress. I won't tell you what the movies about if you want to see it, maybe in a week I will post why the ending should have been different!!

Alright it's late and I don't have anything else to say.

Highlights from the weekend.

So we started the weekend with a party. Ashley turned 21...boy is shse getting sooo old. Hehee just kidding. We had cake, we had balloons, we had friends and family gathered but there were no noise makers or party hats. I was quite excited that we had pulled this off without Ashley knowing either....maybe next year we can have the party hats....22 is a big deal right Ashley? For my coke fanatic brother, I bought Ashley some coke pj's. They are definitely stylish. I held off and only bought one pair though I knew Nathan would have liked me to buy all three different designs. Maybe for your honeymoon we'll find some more.
Next item on the agenda was the big secret hush hush proposal...yes I knew about it and I didn't tell a single soul!!! Aren't you proud of me...I knew for quite awhile and I was quite excited that Nathan showed me the ring too, oh my goodness it was gorgous and it looks good on Ashley's finger too. I am so excited that she's going to be my sister and I think the kiddo's are excited to have another auntie. So aside from school and all that, she'll be busy planning a wedding for a year from now. I personally think they should just elope and not tell anyone until they get back...heehee that is an idea you guys!!!!! So anyways that is the recap of highlights from this weekend....ps. Ashley this picture is just for you....I thought it was kind of funny. I couldn't find a groom with a ball and chain around his neck.
Well I am off to conqour my homework that I have procrastinated all weekend not to do and really regreting that decision now. To much to do with such little time to do it all in. I have too many assignments for tomorrow's clinical day. I will fill you in on how that goes tomorrow and continue my rant about nursing.

funny picture.

My friend told me about this website: www.postsecret.com and it's a community art project where people mail in their secrets on postcards...Well some of them can be pretty disturbing and some of them can be funny sometimes. They post new ones every sunday and this one was from this sunday...I think it's a little odd, but apparently it is someone's secret...now just wondering who fathered the kid. It's interesting too that people actually submit secrets to this venture, I think it would be fun to get a thousand postcards in the mail from all over the world. So that is my post for this morning, I am sure you will get another later on today when I am more awake....the time change honestly was the hardest thing to wake up to in the world! I lost an hour of sleep....so not happy about that.

Moderately Tired..maybe more

Hopefully the title of this blog can tell you how exactly I feel right now. I mean after all midnight is quickly approaching and I am tired. We had a party which was a lot of fun. I miss hanging out with people and since I've been so busy with school, I have lost my social life. Most days I feel like shutting and locking the door and sleeping. Working three- eight hour shifts in a week and then attending classes two days a week tires a person out easily.

I decided I really need to reconnect with people and try to attain a bit of a social night. We will be starting the National Gaming Challenge weekly...umm right?? Ok so maybe it won't be weekly cause students are worked to death sometimes. But I had fun playing games and hanging out and I think that is how saturday nights should be spent. What happened to the old days and playing connect four or monopoly or my personal favorite, the game of life?

We'll see if anything comes of this, there are a lot of new and interesting games out there to be played, I think we need to hold a gaming night to discover the joys of new games and not just old school games.

Anyways I'm tired and I need more than eight hours of sleep, I have a busy weekend which consists of writing my sociology paper and doing nursing care plans and maps and drug research...yay for me. Enjoy the weekend people!!!

Nursing has changed

I was browsing around the internet for some history on nursing and ofcourse we all know the famous Florence Nightingale, but there are ofcourse other nurses like Clara Barton. I wanted to find a picture to show us how much nursing has changed and I came across this picture.
This is a picture of a Navy Nurse. There is no way nurses look this way these days and infact the uniforms from these days are way more comfortable. But it seems that over time, nursing has definitely changed. We no longer see images of respect anymore.
Around school the biggest issue is the degration of nurses. How people look at a picture of a nurse and degrate them, especially when the era of the pin-up nurse was born. Around school the buzz is that a nurse should be respected and looked up on because we save lives, that is what we do. There were quite a few feminists and faculty after the students group who had decorated the bulletin boards with a poster with a nurse on it. The nurse in the picture did not show clevage or did not have a revealing figure or a short skirt on. Apparently the nursing students who complained were the ones who had been disciplined three years ago because they choose a pin-up nurse for their posters to hang on campus which totally degrated the nursing profession.
I do understand that they were trying to promote health as a whole instead of promoting activities involving alcohol. But when you see a nurse on a poster with free all you can drink alcohol obviously they will assume that the "Naughty nurses" are the ones who will be there. Yes that does then give nursing a bad rep.
So anyways I think the lesson has been learned with our students council that you can't just expect to put a nurse on a poster and say "free alcohol" and expect someone to not be offended. You represent all the nurses, not just our class of nursing students. I think they will also double check before they ever do something this dumb again.
Maybe there is time to change nursing back into what it was before.

This is the flu.

This is a picture of the influenze virus....it looks like a sponge, kind of ugly looking if you ask me.
but I think it is important for you to see what is really floating around inside your body when you get sick. Wash your hands people!!!
So it has been a somewhat long week. I am beginning to feel the effects of the flu! Yes I believe I have caught something from the patients that I care for and I am feeling sicker than I have all semester long.

The patients we care for are high susceptible and known carriers of any flu or bug known to man. So naturally having spent three days a week with these people I will ofcourse inhert some lovely germ/bug they are carrying.

What can you do about it though? I got my flu shot, it hasn't worked anyways. I think it's like placebo medication, you take it and it just makes you feel better but honestly doesn't really do anything for you other than make you think you are getting better or less susceptible to something.

I think someone should try to find a complete and total cure for stupid winter illnesses, we would be healthier all together if we could extinguish them and rid the earth of these nasty little creatures.

This is my blog

Aside from spending time trying to figure this whole blogging thing out, I think I may have finally have figured it out! It wasn't as complicated as it first seemed, though being tired sometimes slows a person's perceptions down.

So anyways I figured I would start a blog to follow me through all my adventures....which these days are few and far between, but maybe someday I will be ambitious and travel the world or as in my picture you can see, I would end up in a small straw hut village in Africa helping the sick and needy. First on my task to getting me there would be the completion of school. I am a first year nursing student, a long way off from graduating. Well ok it feels that way, it may not be so far off in the distance.
Life right now is filled with papers, planning, maps, learning new skills etc. School is hard, but I know I wouldn't want someone who didn't know their stuff taking care of me. But we were told it didn't matter what your grades were, because your grades don't make you a good nurse.
So anyways I should go do my studying. I get distracted easily sometimes from finishing my work.
